Project Overview
A leading regional university partnered with Total Stormwater Solutions to meet new VSMP permit requirements triggered by a campus expansion. Rather than traditional gray infrastructure, the university chose a green infrastructure approach that would also enhance campus aesthetics and contribute to their LEED certification goals.
Scope of Work
- Site investigation and stormwater audit across 15 acres
- Design of six bioretention cells totaling 8,000 sq ft
- Installation of 12,000 sq ft of permeable interlocking concrete pavers
- Subsurface drainage system design and installation
- Native plant specification and planting plan
- VSMP permit application and agency coordination
- Monitoring system installation for compliance demonstration
Results
- 2 million gallons of stormwater captured annually
- 85% reduction in impervious runoff from target areas
- Contributed 3 LEED credits toward campus certification
- 95% plant establishment rate after first growing season
